Final Illstration Portfolio

The goal for this piece was to create a realistic illustration of a product. I chose a cell phone and did the project in gouache. i also chose to do the phone from 2 separate angles. I'm pretty happy with how this piece turned out considering it was only my second time working with gouache.

This project required that we take 3 random objects and create a montage. I chose a clown fish, tree and light bulb. The background is meant to mimic the texture of water. This piece was done in gouache. This piece was actually redone. The original has a different texture in the trees and a darker background overall.

This project required that we recreate a book cover for a famous work. I chose Pride and Prejudice. I wanted to go along with the letter-writing concept so for the background I dyed my own paper and illustrated on it with india ink and a paintbrush, adding subtle dimension with monochromatic colored pencils. I added the copy with Indesign. I'm pretty happy with the final outcome of this project and my vision seems to have transferred to the final piece.

The goal for this project was to illustrate a sound. chose to do the sound of a crying baby. I did this piece in watercolor and gouache. I like this illustration, however I think I could have had more contrast and worked with the background a little more.

This project required that we illustrate a world record. I chose to illustrate longest fingernails and do it in a humorous manner. I did this piece in pen and ink and then used watercolor. The copy was added in photoshop. After this Rusty banned cartoons...boo.

This piece is a watercolor landscape exercise size 5.5 x 4. This piece is when I first started getting the hang of watercolor. Even though I didn't do this piece from real life, I feel like I was able to capture the elements that I wanted to. I also enjoyed making the clouds in this piece.

This piece required that we make a postcard that reflected Missouri. I found a photo of a frog that I liked which had his reflection in the water. I illustrated this with gouache and did a watercolor glaze over the reflection to make it look more "watery." I actually kind of enjoyed this piece and am pretty happy with the result.

This project required that we illustrate a conversation. The conversation I overheard was "Baby, you know I love you, but I really want the mint chip ice cream..." I did this piece in pen and ink and then colorized it in photoshop. I am happy with the final outcome of this piece and I've come to find I enjoy painting in photoshop.

Final Cheesy

SOOOOOO cheesy! These dolphins are so in love...and so cheesy. Final illustration. I hate airbrushing.

Dem Nails are LOOOONNNGGGG

Final illustration for World Record. As you can see I did the World's longest fingernails. I went the sassy cartoon route with this one. I am pretty happy with the result. If I could change anything I would add a sidewalk wand work with my bricks a little more. My printed version was a great deal darker than this one, but the one above is the true color of the piece.

Final Sound Illustration

Here is my sound illustration of a crying baby...can't you just hear that wail? I did this with gouache and watercolor.

Pencil comp Sound Illustration

Pencil comp of sound illustration. Mine is a crying baby (they are OBNOXIOUS AND LOUD!) I hope to intensify the sound aspect with a very bold "loud" background. Color comp to come!
